Guatemala charter captains are specialists in light tackle billfishing, so many of their many big game world records are on light tackle or on-the-fly.   But, that does not prevent our clients from landing a trophy sailfish or marlin on the fishing tackle they prefer because the choice of fishing gear is always the angler’s.

Clients most often use our top-of-line professional tackle from Avet, Penn, Pinnacle, or Shimano but are always welcome to bring their own fishing rods, reels, teasers or flies. We have a huge assortment of top-of-the-line teasers and lures.

Our standup light tackle is typically 20-50 pound test with quality drag systems and custom Pinnacle standup rods. Some anglers prefer to fish with our top-of the line Penn spinning gear to make precision casts to mahi mahi (dorado) or a finning sailfish. The rods are only 5 ft 6 in long with long foregrips. This combination transfers more of the mechanical advantage from the fish to the angler. These rods have a lot of backbone but a medium action tip, making the fight much more enjoyable for the anglers.
